International Women’s Day (IWD) 8 March 2016
Graduate Women International (GWI) wishes all its members and Update readers a happy International Women’s Day 2016! This day celebrates the achievements of women past and present all over the world, and is an opportunity for advancing women’s rights.
This year, GWI is highlighting the value qualified women teachers bring to society, and calling for more young women to be encouraged into the field of science, technology, engineering and mathematics, (STEM) to promote gender parity in this sector and to increase diversity and innovation.
In Uganda, GWI is directly addressing the lack of women teachers as a barrier to girls’ secondary education by sponsoring girls from rural areas to qualify as teachers through the Teachers for Rural Futures project. Read our IWD press release here.
